Muka tak boleh blah!!

Salam semua..Alhamdullilah, it has been 2 months already i'm in France.. So far, i'm getting used to all situations which i faced earlier..Being adapt to these new environment, taking care of my work and of course enjoying the 'strange' weather at Nancy..

Most of my official documents (carte de residue, visite medicale, inscription pour PhD) has been completed. Well, dealing with the French people who can't speak 'Anglais' really tease ur patient, so what i did is just do what ever i can do (i settling all alone by myself; sadly) by trying to communicate with them using broken French (thanks to Google Tranduction) and search the place (to submit or to make a rendez vous) on Google Map. So, i'm really indebt with Google which later i should mention it on my thesis acknowledgement (haha)..

Back to the reality life, so far my works going fine as planned. But i should remind myself by not doing all work in the same time like a robot, but clarify one by one, piece by piece so that i wouldn't suffer any pressure or mental disturbance while doing work.

And yes, my wife is coming in this weekend (really can't wait for that). At least she can make me happy while being in France..

Salam semua..setelah sekian lama ak myepi dari blog ni..br la skrg nk update bnd yg trbaru..sejak beberapa bulan ni agak bz dgn paper work dan kerja2 lab sebelum ke France..skrg ni dh msuk mggu ke 2 ak brada dibumi France..bnyk perkara yg nyata brlainan yg ak dpt lihat untuk di bandingkan dgn tanah air sendiri (Malaysia)...ak sgt rindu kesantunan dan keramahan org Malaysia brbanding org2 disini..bahasa juga bkn masalah di Malaysia kerana hampir majority boleh brtutur dlm bahasa Inggeris..tetapi disini, ak kne brbahasa French utk hidup..melaksanakan tuntutan agama juga merupakan cabaran ak disini..tak seperti di Malaysia, masjid dikiri kanan...walau apa pn, ak disni menjalankan amanah yg penyeliaku utk membuat sebahagian kerja penyelidikan di sini selama setahun..

Tempoh setahun tu bkn sekejap, ak trpaksa tinggalkn segala kesenangan di Penang..isteri, keluarga, rumah, kereta dan kawan2 trpaksa ak tinggalkan..plg ak kesalkan adalah ak trpaksa meninggalkan isteriku yg amat ak cintai..bukan mudah utk buat pengorbanan ini..setiap masa ak tringatkan dia..dan setiap waktu ak ingin brbicara dgn dia bagi meredakan perasaan rindu ak trhadap beliau..

Ak brdoa agar beliau dpt brsama-sama dgn ak disini sampai habis belajar..amin.. I love you so much syg..

Di 'cite' dalam Corrosion Science

Dalam Corr. Sci. tu...ak sndiri blum prnah lepas journal ni...

Seperti post2 yg sebelum ni, ak prnah brfikir; kerja penyelidikan kita hnya akan di iktiraf brjaya apabila ada org yg 'appreciate' kerja2 kita..contohnya, citations...

Alhamdulillah, akhirnya ada juga yg brminat nk cite kerja (waktu masters) ak dlm journal yg brimpact factor tinggi (Corr. Sci. = 3.2)..Ini bkn kali pertama kerja penyelidikan ak waktu masters di 'cite' dlm journal atau majalah, tp ini kali pertama kerja ak di cite dlm journal yg mempunyai reputasinya yg agk tinggi.. Syukur, walaupun di hnya cite kerja ak (yg di publish dlm journal Mater.Chem.Phys. = IF 2.4) utk intro dia aje, tp yg paling best ble ada org yg pay-attention pada kerja penyelidikan sperti ini...

p/s: terima kasih juga pada ex-SV ak, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Jain Noordin Mohd. Kassim yg telah bnyak membantu ak hingga ke tahap ini..TQ Prof!! Sy doakan Prof. sentiasa sihat..

1 Month hiatus

Salam semua..

baru skrg menjenguk blog ni..dh brabuk rupanya..habit brblog dh xserancak dulu agknye..sejak brkahwin, ak lebih bnyk trtumpu pada kerja lab dan hal2 rasmi yg prlu diuruskan (ye la, dh jd suami, bnyk bnd nk diuruskan)..skrg ni ak tgh giat menyiapkan data dan manuscript utk publication yg pertama, sebelum brangkat..(kata co-SV; "ak risau tgk ko dh nk g, tp kalau boleh mesti dh ade publication") =_=' kata2 dia membuatkan ak stress n perlu cepat buat kerja..tp, yg xbestnye, bnyk alat2 kat skul yg 'under maintainance' skrg (TGA, CHN)..dan bnyk sample2 yg masih belum dikait dari pokok...

namun begitu, ak tetap enjoy..

stress dgn rxn yg xmenjadi pn buat ak lebih brsabar (wlaupn xsabar sbnrnye)..siapa kata rutin harian di lab akan berubah lepas kahwin??? berubah tu ade la sket, cthnye; pg2 ak kne bgn awal buatkn sarapan utk wife yg brsiap sedia utk ke sekolah; tny wife nk mkn apa kalau dia balik tuisyen lmbt..bla bla bla..
perkahwinan tu mmg indah kalau kita brsepakat antara satu sama lain..cthnye wife memahami ak yg kne g lab walaupn weekend dan ak memahami wife yg trpaksa pergi awal dan pulang kerja lewat..yg pntg, weekend kalau free tu, mmg 24-jam brkepit/brdating ngn wife..haha (ape la ak merepek ni..)

p/s: sentiasa ceria dan mulakan yg trbaik setiap hari!! yoosshh!!

Main SV and Co-SV dh granted permission utk write a research manuscript ke C.P...Ini adalah prcubaan pertama utk hantar ke journal ber-I-F tinggi (yg sblm ni paling tinggi pn, 2 lebih from Int. J. Electrochem. dgn Mat. Chem. Phys. )..i'm so excited and really on to it!

Hence, kali ni punya manuscript kene lebih cantik, compact, full-with-datas dan bahasa yg lebih cantik dari yg sblm2 ni..Even though novelity of this manuscript is just with its new source, i wouldn't bother..at least it's still new for me...wish me luck!!!

Skop pengajian berbeza, research pn brbeza..

Salam semua, entri kali ini adalah feedback kepada entri seorang kawan yg kini melanjutkan pelajaran tahap PhD di skul engineering..prbincangan kali ni merujuk kepada skop pengajian yg brbeza dan impak trhadap penyelidikan (cewah, mcam tajuk perbahasan plak)..ok lets face it people, inferens awal yg kita bley buat sebelum menilai adalah "setiap apa jua bidang yg kita ceburi,tak semestinya sama dan takde satu pn indicator utk menilai kesmua bidang"..contohnye;

1) Bidang Sains Sosial: ak ada ramai kawan yg sedang melanjutkan study dlm bidang ni, khususnya bidang social work..kebanyakan research mereka brkaitan dgn perkembangan, permasalahan social..bg ak, skop kerja mereka mudah..hnya perlu buat proposal (secara langsung chapter 1,2 ngn 3 utk tesis dh siap) dan dibentangkan (defend proposal) sebelum ambil data..yg lama tu cuma nk prepare proposal dan tunggu "q" nk defend proposal jek...ambil data and analisis data hanya mengambil masa beberapa bulan sahaja..lepas ambil data, tinggal siapkn result and discussion dan dh boleh siap study..

2) Bidang Sains: yg ni mmg ikut pengalaman ak sendiri..tapi bidang sains tu luas..mcam2 ade..kalau bidang yg perlu buat experiment, yg ni mmg susah..contohnye bidang biologi, kita perlu hasilkan aset penting research kita dl (e.g sel, ternak bakteria, ternak binatang/serangga dulu etc) barula bley study nature/application sesuatu bahan terhadap aset kita ni..kalau aset kita ni rosak/mati tgh2 study,nangis wooo..kene starting over..ok, kalau bidang kimia, kita perlu hasilkan aset kita dahulu (buat sintesis/reaction dulu) baru study macam2 parameter sebelum stdy application yg sesuai..result boleh jadi positif atau negatif..selain tu jugak kne proposed mechanism yg sesuai utk tnjukan tindak balas yg trjadi...dan bagi ak, bidang kimia adalah lebih susah antara bidang2 yg dimana kita perlu buat reaction..

3) Bidang Kejuruteraan: kalau bidang kejuruteraan pulak, mereka lebih pentingkan hasil penyelidikan, efficiency, utili dan sebagainye...reaction masih ada,tp lebih minor..application study mmg lebih, tp kurang penerangan ttg mechanism atau sebagainya..bg org engineering, mechanism tu kurang penting..efficiency bahan atau alat yg mereka hasilkan tu lebih penting..secara amnya, bidang kejuruteraan ini lebih merujuk kepada bidang applied science...masih perlu berusaha keras untuk dptkan result..

4) Bidang Perubatan/Kesihatan: bidang ini juga boleh dikatakan sebagai applied life science..mereka menghasilkan satu ubat/device bagi meningkatkan metabolisme atau mengurangkan risiko penyakit..application study mmg lebih kerana mereka mementingkan efficiency ubat/device yg mereka hasilkan..

pendek kata, stiap apa jua bidang yg kita ceburi ianya memang berbeza dari yg lain dan tentunya istimewa dimata kita sendiri..jgn jadikan bidang yg berbeza sebagai ukuran yea..

Kerja Tambahan Budak Postgrad

Being as postgrad student can be considered as tough challenge..Not only research work that we have to undergo, but for instance most of our supervisor's work..for example, writing a grant proposal, supervising undergraduate students, buying chemicals or equipments for lab, making a progress report, writing a research paper and etc..that is why most of postgraduate students take such a long time to graduate coz most of the time they wasting their time with these matter+wondering about the research project..some works are not too bad, writing a grant proposal, supervising undergraduate students or writing a research manuscript could make the student firm after they graduate (of course most of they will be lecturers of researchers; some experience dealing with these things would be valuable). Nevertheless, some work could be a burden to the student..writing a grant progress report, making poster/slide presentation, doing experiment for the sake of educated people (u know what i meant..sometimes u could see yourself being used by them)

Well, for most students who used to it, it is just normal, they willing to do it..for me, "nawaitu" and 'sincerity' will be my top priority..but my advise, don't be too "multi-tasking"..

Kematangan manusia

Salam..

Bila duduk termenung sorg2, ak trimbau kembali zaman kanak2ku..ak dilahirkan di kampung (typical Malay village) di bahagian utara Johor (Segamat)..Klau waktu kecil dulu, segala urusan sekolah, mkn, pakaian, duit dan apa sahaja diuruskan oleh kedua org tua ku..Menginjak ke sekolah menengah dan matrik, ak mula belajar berdikari..lebih2 lagi ms duduk asrama..kalau ada urusan persendirian, ak akn uruskan sendiri namun masih bergantung pada mak dan ayah (duit poket, pakaian, kenderaan dan sebagainya)..tapi, sejak melangkau usia awal 20, ak mula berdiri diatas kaki sendiri..segala urusan rasmi, ak yg uruskan..duit, makan dan pakaian ak cari sendiri..ak tak mau digelar 'anak yg menyusahkan org tua' walaupun ak masih belajar dan belum berkerja tetap..

Ak masih ingat waktu ak mula2 start Master, masa tu sgt susah..ak takde keje dan trpksa menumpang dibilik kawan semata2 nk sambung study..bila dpt jdi RA, gaji ak plak lmbt 2-3 bulan..memaksa ak betul2 ikat perut dan pinjam duit kawan..ak tak nk mintk dari mak ayah ak sbb ak sendiri yg ambil keputusan utk smbg belajar..mcam2 keje yg ak buat..lepas balik lab, ak keje jd pembantu klinik (poliklinik penawar) dan hujung minggu ajar tuisyen..dpt la duit sket utk buat mkn, duit minyak moto dan sebagainya..bila dpt GA (graduate assistant) dan biasiswa Bajet mini, br kurang sket penderitaan ak..ms tu hidup agk selesa sikit dan ak ambil bilik sendiri slepas setahun lebih hidup menumpang..kalau ada rezeki lebih, ak kasi duit kat mak..tak bnyak, tp asalkn dia dpt merasa duit dri ak sendiri..

langit tak selalunya cerah, bila ak habis master, ak mengalami konflik diri...ak buntu cari jalan untuk bekerja dan belajar..ak serahkan pd takdir..dgn hanya berkerja sementara sbagai RA di Skul Material Engineering dan guru ganti di SMKBJ, ak tetap dengan pendirian ak untuk sambung belajar dan dlm masa yg sama merancang utk berkahwin..bnyak pahit maung ak terpksa lalui..sampaikn ak asik trmenung sendiri memikirkan nasib..namun, sampai bila asik nk brmenung tanpa buat apa2? ak tawakal pada Allah..ak mintk kerja dibeberapa tempat dan dlm ms yg sm mintk biasiswa MyPhD...yg mana dtg dulu, itu lah rezeki ak..

Seminggu sebelum raya, ak dpt tau yg ak dpt biasiswa MyPhD tu..secara jelas, mencerahkan peluang ak utk smbg belajar dan berkahwin..Mungkin rezeki org yg brkahwin, elaun msuk dan ak dpt merancang sesuatu utk masa depanku yg sgt pasti..dan sekali lagi, ak tak mau menyusahkan orang tuaku..

Ak belajar sesuatu disitu, walau apa jua masalah yg kita hadapi, jgn cepat mengeluh dan mengenang nasib, sebaliknya berusaha dengan apa jua perancangan walaupun kebarangkaliannya kecil..siapa tahu, disitu lah rezeki kita..untuk terus hidup, kita mesti berikhtiar dgn brmacam cara dan bukan hanya duduk bersedih..pertolongan itu akan pasti dtg..yakinlah..dengan yg demikian, barulah anda semua mnecapai kematangan..

p/s: buat yg terbaik utk hari esok..biarlah susah dahulu,senangnya akan dtg kemudian..

Just for a recent update, i'm now being a bit busy with the workloads so my free time has been reduce (that is why i rarely updated my blog..haha)..

By the way, in today's entry i'm going to discuss about terms that we seldom heard..
-SCOPUS cited
-ISI (Thompson Reuters)
-Peer-viewed journal
-Impact factor

Let's start with SCOPUS and ISI (Thompson Reuters):

We might wonder and seldom heard about these terms. But do we understand the terms? Ok now, SCOPUS which was launched in November 2004, is the largest abstract and citation database containing both peer-reviewed research literature and quality web sources. With over 19,000 titles from more than 5,000 international publishers, SciVerse Scopus offers researchers a quick, easy and comprehensive resource to support their research needs in the scientific, technical, medical and social sciences fields and, more recently, also in the arts and humanities. This means that i u r able to get a publication, ur manuscript is sometimes can be acess by other people using this database..Meanwhile, ISI Thomson Reuters (formerly ISI) Web of Knowledge is today's premier research platform for information in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. ISI is actually an organization which gathered all research field in one platform..The different between the two is, SCOPUS = database, ISI = website

Next, is the peer-review journals...Peer review is a process of self-regulation by a profession or a process of evaluation involving qualified individuals within the relevant field. Peer review methods are employed to maintain standards, improve performance and provide credibility. In academia peer review is often used to determine an academic paper's suitability for publication and it can be divided into two;

1) Anonymous peer review, also called blind review, is a system of prepublication peer review of scientific articles or papers for journals or academic conferences by reviewers who are known to the journal editor or conference organizer but whose names are not given to the article's author. The reviewers do not know the author's identity, as any identifying information is stripped from the document before review. The system is intended to reduce or eliminate bias, although this has been challenged.
2) Open peer review describes a scientific literature concept and process, central to which is the various transparency and disclosure of the identities of those reviewing scientific publications. The concept thus represents a departure from, and an alternative to, the incumbent anonymous peer review process, in which non-disclosure of these identities toward the public – and toward the authors of the work under review – is default practice. The open peer review concept appears to constitute a response to modern criticisms of the incumbent system; therefore, its emergence may be partially attributed to these phenomena.

Impact factor: often abbreviated IF, is a measure reflecting the average number of citations to articles published in science and social science journals. It is frequently used as a proxy for the relative importance of a journal within its field, with journals with higher impact factors deemed to be more important than those with lower ones.
